Sunday in the Park… Opens (and Closes) at Pasadena Playhouse

Oh, my Sondheim dreams!

Sunday in the Park with George has been my favorite musical since I discovered it in high school. I met Sarna, who I’ve assisted for years, only shortly after the Broadway revival of it she directed. I thought it was cruel fate that I didn’t get the chance to at least be in her orbit during that production.

I intentionally slowed down on assistant and associate gigs when I moved to Los Angeles in late 2021, focusing on creating more of my own work. But when Sarna told me she was directing the show again at Pasadena Playhouse (the state theatre of California, they’ll have you know), I knew I had to take part.

What was additionally exciting about working on this production was that, after Sarna departed, I stayed on to maintain the run of the show, working closely with Graham Philips and Krystina Alabado (our George and Dot). I also ran our understudy rehearsals with stage management. It felt validating to be leading with these actors in that show in this big theatre. I seriously loved it.
